What makes the leaders in the Internet Business World?

We see the MLM gurus on the web. We read about their achievements, their meetings, their trips, their lifestyles. Do you wonder sometimes how they got where they are? What makes a marketing leader? Do you think sometimes whether you could do what they’ve done?

What they’ve done is not that complicated that you can’t do it. How they got to be industry leaders is not beyond your reach. It takes work and determination, but you can be a marketing leader. With the right understanding and hard work on your part, you too can be an Internet Marketing Leader.

Here’s a few of the things that set industry leaders apart from those that come and go in the online marketing world.

 

How did the Internet Marketing Leaders get where They Are?

 

1. They Treated Online Marketing as a Business.

Seems obvious, but it’s not always done by everyone claiming to have an online business. Leaders understand that this is a business and they must treat is as a business. They must put in the efforts to build and grow their business, just as a CEO of a major company works to grow their business.

Leaders in Online Marketing don’t go into this with an attitude that they’ll give it a shot and see if it works. They go into it with the attitude that it will work and that they will stick to it and keep learning until it does work. Period! Leaders treat their business as a real business.

 

2. Internet Marketing Leaders Planned to Succeed!

They set their goals and made their plans on how they would get to those goals. Leaders know where they are going and how they are going to get there. They made long term goals of great achievements and made short term goals of the steps along the way to get there. Marketing Leaders know what they need to be doing to reach their goals and they do it.

 

3. MLM Leaders are Persistent.

Network Marketing is a social networking business. It takes time to build a social network whether off-line or on-line. Leaders know that it will take time and they are prepared to stick with it to the successful end. Leaders see their goals as worth the efforts and time that have to be put into the business. They make mistakes and fall down at times, but pick themselves up and learn from their mistakes. They are persistent and tenacious at reaching the success they strive for.

 

4. Marketing Leaders Work Hard!

The Gurus may give the appearance of living a leisurely life in a beach house, but they also work hard. They enjoy many of the good things of life, but they also spend many days away from home training and speaking and working their business down line or helping others in the business. They spend many hours working their business, especially in the early years. They work their business even on days they don’t feel like it. They work hard!

 

5. MLM Leaders Prospect.

MLM, Network Marketing, whatever you want to call is it a business of networking with others and finding others who want to build a business. MLM Leaders know that and they spend most of their time networking and prospecting. Internet Social Media has changed the format used to do this, but it’s still networking and prospecting. Leaders in the industry look for others who want to build successful businesses. They look for people who want to be leaders in the industry. Leaders work to duplicate themselves.

 

These are some of the more obvious things that MLM Leaders and Industry Leaders do to become who they are. Would you like to be a Marketing Leader? Do you have what it takes? Are you willing to put in the effort and time that it takes?

Chick-Fil-A and Your Business

Recent events with Chick-Fil-A, a chain of restaurants known for their chicken meals and family values has caused a big stir in the news. In case you haven’t kept up with it, Chick-Fil-A’s CEO, Dan Cathy stated his support for traditional marriages and Christian values. Chick-Fil-A has stood for Christian values all along and has been one of the only food chains closed on Sundays directly because of their Christian faith.

The controversy came when 3 governors of major cities in the US openly proclaimed that they did not want more Chick-Fil-A’s in their cities because of those values which are in opposition to homosexual lifestyles. The controversy continued to grow when supporters of Christian values and Free Speech flocked to the restaurants to show their support yesterday. Tomorrow the Free Lifestyle side promises to demonstrate their sides values at the restaurants.

I’m not choosing sides on the values issues involved in the controversy. I’m not choosing whether it was even the smart thing to do for a CEO of a company to get into such a controversial issue in an interview. Maybe he just didn’t consider that it would get out to an audience that would oppose him. Others can argue those points. I’m not arguing any point, really; I just want to draw a lesson from it for us who are business owners ourselves. For Dan Cathy, his values, his standards seem to be wrapped up into his business.

What are your business standards?

Do you have business values that you feel strongly about in running your business? I’m not talking about moral issues, but how you run your business. Do you believe in being honest in your dealings? Do you believe in being fair to everyone? Do you have strong values or standards that are key to how you run your business?

When push comes to shove will you stand behind those values or ethics even when it potentially could be bad for your business? I believe that part of being a business leader is having a set of definite standards in how you manage your business and how you treat others in business, and how you treat your customers.

A Lesson for Us

As business leaders we need to be willing to hold to the standards we set for ourselves whether it may be popular or not. As business leaders we should set the standard of high ethics and integrity and hold to those standards.

Again, I’m not choosing sides in this situation, or judging the words or actions of either side. But I do believe we can gain a valuable lesson from it as business owners.
