How important is Google Plus for you sites SEO?
The purpose of your marketing site is to draw visitors to read your messages and click on your offers. If that’s your purpose, then you’re concerned about SEO, Search Engine Optimization. So what affect does Google+ have on SEO? When someone clicks on 1+ on your site and shares your site with their Circle on Google+, what affect does it have?
How SEO Works.
When Google and the other search engines receive a search request (when someone types in a search phrase), they try to figure out which sites are most relevant to that search and list them by most relevant ranking. When you work to optimize your site for search engines, you are trying to get a higher ranking in the search results; preferably to rank on the first page of results.
The search engines use various means to judge the relevance or ranking of a page. They look at content to see how relevant it is to the search phrase. They look at several other things, including how much the page is shared in the social networking groups, such as Twitter, Facebook, etc. The more the site is shared in the social media, the more relevant the search engines usually assume it is.
Where does Google Plus come in?
Google+ is another social media platform, similar in some ways to Facebook. So, the more your site is shared on Google+, the more relevance it will probably have. But, since Google+ is owned and operated by Google, the data can more easily be studied and used, so it Google+ may have a quicker affect on ranking withing Google searches than the other social media platforms might.
Another interesting thing about Google+ is that Google tends to list, in their searches next to the article’s author, the number of Google+ Circles that person is a part of. This would indicate that an author who is member of more Circles might gain a benefit in ranking over an author not in Google+ Circles. At any rate, it shows the interconnectivity of Google Search with Google+.
Bottom line; because Google+ and Google Search are so tightly interconnected, there is a strong indication that the more your site is shared in Google+, the greater the positive benefit to your Google Search ranking.
What do we learn from it all?
The thing we should take away from this is that if we want to rank higher in Google Search results, we need to increase our number of 1+’s. We need to have our site shared by more Google+ users, as well as with the other social media platforms. How do we have our site shared more on Google+.
Be active in Google Plus.
One way to help increase your site being shared in Google+ Circles is to be involved in Google+. Share other’s sites and participate in Circles. Become known. It’s much the same as is recommended with Twitter and Facebook; be involved, share content, re-share other’s contents. When you share other’s content, it will tend to come back to you.
Plant a seed of +1’s your site.
That may seem a bit basic, but why not ask your friends to help you get started ranking higher. Most friends would be glad to help out a little with your success. People can shy away from being the first one to “like” or “+1” an article. By having a few +1’s from friends, you start a seed of +1’s and others are more likely to follow.
Anyone with a Google gmail account would also have Google Plus available to them. Why not ask your friends to join a Circle and also +1 your site. By the way, if you happen to have multiple gmail accounts (hint) you could also use your various accounts to +1 your site to start a seed.
The main thing we should remember is that the more your site is shared with others, whether on Google+, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc., the higher the search engine ranking tends to be. Also, the more it’s shared, the more likely others will find you in the social media groups. The more your site is shared in social media, the more chance that other visitors will find you.
